Many people rush into selecting an architect without fully considering it and end up disappointed. Below are a few points you must consider while choosing an architect for your project.

  1. Scouting out architects

You can ask for suggestions and recommendations from your relatives and friends. Highly skilled architects usually have a large customer base, and word of mouth is considered the most reliable source.

You can also search online for the best architects in your city/state and visit their website. This will enable you to gather some information regarding their style of work and the services they provide.

  1. Qualification and rating

Checking on the qualifications of the architect is essential in selecting the right architect. They need to be registered under the Architects Act. Your architect must be certified by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) or the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. Being a member of various associations and having licenses from recognized institutions ensures that the architect maintains the standards and regulations to create safe building structures.

  1. Work Approach

Each architect takes a different approach to the same project. Therefore, your selected architect must have a strategy that resonates with your idea. It would help if you always spoke to them directly, showed them the area to be renovated, and asked for their ideas and opinions. You must also ensure the architect tries to include/improve your ideas.

The architect must also present a personalized approach, as every client has different needs and requirements. Do not go for the architects that have a pre-determined way of working.

  1. View previous work

Experience is one of the most important factors when selecting an architect. Could you take a tour of their previous work? Look for similarities in design, material motifs, design quality, etc., that would give you a fair idea of how their finished products turn out. You must also visit their office, if they are a firm, and see if their style matches your taste.

  1. Referees

It is of utmost significance that you ask your architect for the contact details of their previous clients and the contractors they have worked with. Their feedback will give you a clear picture of the type of person/ firm you are dealing with. It will also tell you about their problem-solving skills and commitment to work.

Choosing the right architect for your project is a crucial decision. As they are responsible for several tasks from the beginning to the end, design to construction, you must have a comfortable relationship with the architect to communicate your needs to them. With the help of a good architect, you can realize your dream.
